Jacksmith and the Papa's Games: Same Studio, Same Rhythm

Why these three games

When Jacksmith loads, the title screen says "Developed by Flipline Studios" and "Game and Characters (c) 2012 Flipline Studios", and along the bottom it shows buttons for other Flipline games. Three of those buttons are Papa's Wingeria, Papa's Pancakeria and Papa's Freezeria, and those are the three Papa's games on this site. If you liked Jacksmith, they are the closest thing here, because the same studio made them in the same years.

What Jacksmith shares with them

Jacksmith is a blacksmith game, not a restaurant game, but the bones are similar. Inside the game's code, the soldiers who order weapons are handled as customers standing in an order line and a wait line, just like the diners in a Papa's shop. The day has the same shape too. A day starts, orders come in, you make each order by hand at a station, and an end-of-day screen adds up your money and XP toward the next level. Like the Papa's games, Jacksmith is played with the mouse alone; Flipline lists "Controls: Mouse" for all four.

The big difference is what happens after the order. In a Papa's game the customer eats and pays. In Jacksmith the soldiers march out to fight on a trail, and you fire the cannon and collect the loot that pays for the next day's forging.

Papa's Freezeria

Flipline's page sets Freezeria on the tropical island of Calypso. You have taken a summer job at an ocean-front ice cream shop, Papa Louie leaves you in charge during peak tourist season, and boatloads of customers arrive wanting Freezer treats. If you enjoyed fitting parts in Jacksmith, Freezeria's building of each order step by step will feel familiar.

Papa's Pancakeria

Pancakeria leaves you running Papa Louie's newest restaurant, flipping and stacking orders of pancakes, waffles and French toast. Flipline's description adds that a friend, The Great Foodini, has mini games for you at the end of each day. That end-of-day payoff is the part Jacksmith replaces with its battle.

Papa's Wingeria

Wingeria is about picky customers ordering wings. Flipline lists the jobs: take orders, run the deep fryers, sauce the wings, and arrange them on a platter with garnishes and sides. Of the three, it has the most stations to juggle, which is the closest match to keeping four craft stations busy in Jacksmith.

One more Flipline note

Flipline later released a reworked version called Jacksmith: Weapons and Warriors for Windows PCs. The game on this site is the 2012 browser original, version 2.0 according to its title screen.
